Tutorial 3&4

Today's EIR lesson was all about twitter. We were asked to update our twitter accounts when we came to class. After that we were sepearated into our own schools, ASC, IT and BS. Every group was asked to write on a piece of paper how twitter is able to help us in our courses. Everyone gave at least one idea. This actually helped me to realize that twitter can be very helpful in communicating with other people. Twitter allows you to follow whoever that you want to follow. It also allows you to summarize what you want to say because it limits the number of words you can type.
At first i always thought twitter is just a website that is redundant and only for people who has nothing better to do but follow other people. But actually twitter is a powerful tool for communication and to update stuff about yourself to friends. It is somehow better then blogspot because it limits the amount of words written. Whereas for blogger it let's you write as many words as you want, but blogger can become too wordy and people might not be patient enough to read so many words. But one good thing about blogger is that it is able to be set as private blog. So only those that are allowed to read the blog are allowed to go in. Whereas for Twitter, there is no privacy, people can see whatever that you have written.
The class was also able to reply to each other twits in a very fast pace. That is an advantage, because information can be passed around at a more faster pace. It will be good as work can be done at a faster pace.
So overall i think that twitter is quite a relevant website where discussions can be done quickly. Today's activity really changed my thinking of twitter.

My Dream Holiday- Prac 8 & 9 Activity 2

My dream holiday is actually a chance for me to see the underwater world in the Great Barrier Reef located in Australia. It is very well known for being the largest coral reef system in the world. It also supports a wide diversity of life and many endangered species live there.

I have always been in love with sea creatures. Weather ugly or pretty, big or small, i'll love them because they live in the ocean. They can reach deep into the ocean that no human can even go with technology. I envy them as they live and survive in one of the most beautiful places nature has provided for us. The clearness of the water and the different types of sea creatures living in that particular reef has attracted my attention for a very long time.

When i was about 9 years old, i got attracted to this particular picture of the Great Barrier Reef on a calender in my parent's room. Ever since that day that i saw that beautiful picture, it has always been my dream to travel to the Great Barrier Reef to at least see the real wonders of it. My family and i have never been anywhere else ouside the country except for Malaysia. Going to Australia would be my dream come true. Diving in the Great Barrier Reef would be even better! One day i would make sure to give it a shot to dive in the Great Barrier Reef.

The cost of having a full day dive would actually costs from US$69-238 depending on the type of diving and locations of the dive.

This website gives us information of scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef: http://www.divethereef.com/

Prac 7 Citizen Journalism

On this EIR lesson/practical,we did group work for the first time to discuss about citizen globalisation. I thought this activity was quite different as i was needed to communicate with my classmates face to face. I got to know two other people from the IT course. It was good to talk and discuss about stuff once in a while doing class, instead of just facing the computer for two whole hours, it tires my eyes out. We were also needed to visited the website "Stomp.com" to relate citizen globalisation with the website. Stomp.com actually allows contribution of contents, sharing of ideas/open concept and the free expression of thoughts and ideas which covers all the criteria of a citizen globalisation. News that are uploaded there are actually quite updated. I think its a really interesting website to be in, it suits what a normal teenager would want to read.

Sharing my ideas in wiki helps me express my ideas and comments on stomp.com. It was also a good chance for me to take a look at what other people feel about the website. It also helps me find out more about stomp.com and what other people feel of it. Sharing my ideas in wiki allows other people to view what i think of stomp.com. By doing so, i actually get feedback from them and thus this will expand my knowledge of the researched subject by giving comments.

What i've learnt in this lesson helps me to evaluate websites more easily and now i know what website to use if i want people to commet and view my project.
